Carl Ekstrom
Carl came of age as a surfer with Butch Van Artsdalen in the formidable peaks and subversive beach scene of La Jolla’s famed Windansea. A leading shaper and surfboard manufacturer in the 1960s, Carl’s innovative designs, including the asymmetrical board, impacted both surfing and snowboarding. Andy Warhol considered Carl’s shaping to be art, and purchased several of his surfboards.  As a designer and prototype-builder, Carl has worked on experimental swim fins, furniture, wave machines, artificial reefs, and race cars. He is one of the most talented and humble people in surfing.
