Peter Townend
Peter was a key member of the famed “Free Ride” generation which hit Hawaii in the mid-1970s. Along with fellow Aussies Mark Richards and Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, and South African Shawn Tomson, Peter pushed the envelope of surfing by aggressive tube riding and ripping the face of the wave. World Surfing Champion in 1976, Peter was an early advocate for professional competitive surfing.
